johnnydoom You definitely know better than I do, but I have difficulty understanding their draft strategy if that is the case. I don’t view Hooker and Gibbs as backup players in traditional sense. I wonder if some wild rotational scheme (play everyone) is in the works?
Lions have absolutely no back up QB for years. If Goff gets hurt, it's season over. So drafting Hooker makes sense. He can learn and maybe replace goff in two years when his contract is up and he wants $50 million a year which will likely be the going price then. If not maybe he can at least be a quality backup. Supposedly Lions are looking at Bridgewater for a backup this year as Hooker is hurt and can't play right away anyway.
As for Gibbs , most teams use RB by committee now anyway. Odd though that the Lions spent $6mil on Montgomery in free agency. I trust the GM though till we see otherwise.
