Hey Jeff! I recollect this on ISI irons - The JZ.

Ping JZ (Regular & Stiff): Weight: R-109.8g S-115.1g; Torque: 1.9(R) 1.7 (S) ; Description: A mid weight steel shaft that plays a little softer than the Z-Z65 and ZZ-Lite. A very common shaft in Zing, Zing 2, and ISI irons. Ball Flight: Due to the mid flex point of this shaft it is designed to hit the ball between the CS-Lite and the Z-Z65.

What’s your experience with vintage Ping shafts? Which did you prefer and why? Ever try the graphite? I’m leaning towards the JZ, perhaps the 350 by Aldila.

Back when I could hit a steel shaft, I preferred the ZZ Lite and ultimately the PING AWT which is made by Nippon and is a wonderful feeling steel shaft. I never liked the JZ, even in R flex. I would NOT recommend a PING graphite shaft from the 80s or 90s. Those older shafts were just bad IMO. I hated the Aldila 350 and loved the CB Alta (current model). The ultimate set of ISI might be built from a nice set of heads and then some modern shafts. Your mileage may vary, Jeff. A lot of players loved the JZ shaft.

Yep, we’re 2 different birds. I had a set of I3+ Blades with the Aldila 350 and thought they were fine, but it seems most Aldila shafts fit me just fine. I also had a set of Zings or Zing2’s with steel shafts that felt great, but for the life of me can’t remember which shaft it was. I guess I prefer shafts that have a softer tip section.

Your ZINGS most likely had the KT or KTM shaft. Many older PING steel shafts had low torque tips. Shaft fitting/feel is VERY personal. The KT were famous for bending just above the hosel, especially in the ZING.

Well, I don’t think I’m blue dot now. According to Ping’s older and newer charts I’m green, possibly white. By my own measurements I fall right in between green and white. Gonna have my wife help me measure wrist to floor and fingertip to floor when she gets home. This may help my search since there seems to be more green dots than blue out there for sale.

JeffTilley Don’t worry too much about getting the correct color. I’m boarding between green and white as well. Picked up 2-LW Ping Zings from @sdandrea1’s papa d special stock in black dot. Ping will bend loft and lie on the entire set for like $45 including return shipping.

JeffTilley Don't worry about the chart, it is only a starting point. Get fit! I have used the chart many times and have been fit several over the years. In my life (I'm 79) I have played at least eight different iron sets, and I NEVER ended with a set that matched the chart.

Yep, they’ll bend the stainless up to 2 degrees, but won’t touch the BECU or BENI.

Jelopster Ping won't bend copper iron heads. I don't know about nickel. Good luck.

I had Brunswick Mucro Taper shafts in my copper Pings from Kcee. I don’t put much of a load on a shaft so I don’t see much difference from one shaft to the next unless it’s a waaay different shaft. Not that it pertains here but I hit a Modus 130s and it went straight up as advertised. I was amazed
