I think it was a mistake not picking Reed, he might have been the perfect guy to pair with
Bryson....2 controversial "villains" would've been fun to watch! IMO
2021 Ryder Cup
The European Ryder Cup team will be finalised in the next couple of hours - the 9 players below are confirmed on the team after the BMW PGA, 3 picks to be named at 7:30pm UK time (with Garcia and Poulter very likely to be on the team).
Jon Rahm
Tommy Fleetwood
Tyrell Hatton
Bernd Wiesberger
Rory McIlroy
Victor Hovland
Paul Casey
Matt Fitzpatrick
Lee Westwood
To the surprise of absolutely NO ONE, Harrington picked Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia, and Shane Lowrey, so the
teams are set. If I were Stricker, I would have concentrated on "who can sink a putt when he needs to?!!" b/c
that's where we seem to continually fail when we play the Euros in either Ryder Cups or Solheim Cups. They
make 'em....we don't. How many putts did Leona McGuire & Company make at Inverness when they needed
to last week vs. the US girls...???
Nice story on ESPN: https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/32218591/i-know-do-tales-first-tee-ryder-cup
(Some of the pictures are real throwbacks - Westwood with his Ping Zing irons...)
Best 3 days in golf, GO USA!
Listening to Chamblee talk about how the US has no chance to lose, LOL. Euros gonna put up a fight.
This is gonna be interesting as I remember Jason Day taking this course to it's knees with the tee ball when he won the PGA. Alt shot and Better ball gonna be interesting to see how the strategy changes for the teams as once you get off the beaten path at The Straits you are likely to be in an awful lie!
Go
Strick shedding a tear when he introduced his daughters was pretty cool. Expected. But cool.
It's hard to believe this will be the first time in this competition since 1995 that Phil or Tiger will not be playing. 25 years! - where does the time go? And this SI article says their absences won't be a problem for the US.

Not a big fan of foursomes. Rather see players play entire hole
Awesome venue for match play!
WOW Patrick and Xander are steamrolling Rory and Poulter...5 up thru 5 hole.
Rahm/Garcia +3 vs Thomas/Spieth.
Rahm has made over 100' of putts so far. I think the perceived PGA POY snub is a burr in his saddle and his going to kick some butt this week.
mikeintopeka
The Euro's probably got fired up when JT and Spieth made Sergio putt that 2 footer on 4 (I think it was)
USA leads 3-1 after the morning round...Rahm/Garcia put up the only point for the Euros 3&1 over Thomas/Spieth.
mikeintopeka cut.
Just can't see to count on Speith. I hope his play improves.
- Edited
mikeintopeka Rahm has made over 100' of putts so far
Hell, I think one of them was 50'. Dude is a baller.
Dear Bryson,
The fairway is the short grass area BETWEEN the left & right rough.
PapaD.
Not a fan of the loud cheers for mishit shots but it's expected in a Ryder Cup now; think that's because it's now a "bucket list" event attended by a lot of non-golfers. Or maybe I'm just getting old and irritable ...
Been to a couple of pro events in Scotland and poor shots/mishits are generally met with total silence, probably because most of the spectators have been there, done that, got the golf shirt
Finau's putter is sizzling HOT!
Dear Bryson
Hitting fairways seems to be over-rated. Carry on.
PaaD
Tony puts the last nail in the coffin. Game, set, match~ Tony and English put the first point on the board this p.m.
sdandrea1 - If he hit fairways, how could he let his inner "Houdini" genes be on display?
