SL 3 wood?

Just purchased the wishon eq1 3 wood. Anyone play this one yet? I'm planning on playing it as a 7wood first as I think the headweight is currently about 230g. I'm using standard headweight of 210 for a 3 wood/43"; going up 5g increments per wood so, 220g = 5 wood/42"; 230g=7wood/41".

I think the lie angle is 60 deg so that should work as a 7 or 9 wood I think.

Anyways, I'm loving SL irons so maybe the 3w might work right?

Comments/feedback from the experts here would be much appreciated!

shokosugi I had an In1Zone SL 3W with my SL set. Liked it so much I just built my Thriver Mini (13 degree mini driver/strong 3w) to play at 5W length. I love it. Easy to hit and plenty long.

In the end, the higher your club head speed for any single length club the better. The slower senior types like myself don't have enough club head speed and the shorter playing length does not help. That's my experience.

scotts33 that’s the case with all sl clubs that the reviewers and proponents won’t talk about. Seniors and slower swingers need to do the opposite. It takes practice and work . Clubs a little longer with a bit flatter lie to compensate is the answer. Traditional lofts( even if it means rejuvenating an older set) , learn to hit the longer irons. We all loose swing speed with age and we have to work on different approaches to compensate. I have spent hours hitting plastic balls with 3 and 4 irons in the yard, almost everyday, and I’m now confident in using them. Hybrids and fairway woods have their place but they’re just not accurate enough in all situations.

Yeah, I agree. Luckily my swing speed is still quite high so SL still works. I imagine as I get older and slower, hybrids will need to replace long irons if I want to continue with SL

Quick update - I have played a few rounds with my newly acquired wishon eq1 3 wood and 4 hybrid

I built the 4 hybrid with an uncut wedge shaft that I got at RBG for a buck or two and the 3 wood with a former favorite 3 wood shaft that broke at the tip (OG speeder 757). It worked out good as the wedge shaft was 37" uncut so in the 4 hybrid it plays about 38" total which is exactly what I wanted. The broken speeder 757 was tip trimmed by 2 inches roughly where it broke (just above the adapter) so installed its plays about 40.5" which is about an 8 wood length so I weighted it to about what I think an 8 wood would weigh (235g)

So far, I am not sure about the hybrid yet as it still launches quite low but it is much easier to hit than the 4 iron. I will probably try a higher launching and softer shaft to see if that will help but we'll see - not sure anything can be elevated at that playing length and loft.

As for the 8 wood, I am very surprised how well I hit it. Generally I really struggle with a 3 wood off the tee but this 8 wood has been really good so far and feels really easy to hit and I may not need a mini driver anymore. Color me impressed so far. Even off the deck, I am surprised with the ball flight as I thought it would be too low but its not.

Overall its almost like my own gx-7 infomercial lol, the EQ1 3wood for me is easier to hit than a 7 wood, with the distance of a 4 wood and the ball flight of a 3 wood.

In short, if you struggle off the tee or deck with a 3 wood, consider a SL fairway - its pretty impressive so far in my opinion (3 rounds in)

shokosugi sounds like you have a winner there. I have been over thinking about going in on the SL irons and had wondered about the woods. I don’t know if I can give up my current hybrids/ 3wood, but I might just have to give it a run.
