JoeHatesSnow I've really been considering the Mavrik SZ for quite some time as I've been using the Rogue SZ for at least a couple seasons. It's been a pretty good driver for me and I'm just wondering if the Mavrik SZ would be an upgrade or not. What little in comparison I've been able to find on the interwebs is kind of conflicted on the subject. Has anyone here played both and have any insight?
Do it! I'm gaming the mavrik sz and have played all the callaways. I love a muted thud and the mavrik will give you this. Having said that, mishits feel much better but sometimes you don't realize it until you find your ball 20 yards short of where you think it is. With the rogue, you know every time you miss, pro v1s sounds like a pinnacle.
Performance wise, I would say the mavrik is slightly higher spinning and more forgiving on mishits compared to the rogue. Perfect strikes are about the same but better sounds/feel overall IMHO.
I made the switch because I love the sound and feel and the added forgiveness is nice. I have had my longest drives ever with the mavrik too but overall it's hard to really say there is much extra distance with perfect strikes compared to the mavrik. Honestly if the sounds and feel of the mavrik were the same as the rogue, I may not have switched. Having said that, if the price is good, it's worth the upgrade just for the sound and feel. If you don't care about sound and feel and don't mind hitting something hard and loud, go for the epic flash sz. I found it to be a touch lower spinning than the rogue. I actually preferred the performance over the mavrik on perfect strikes but couldn't stand the sound and feel and it felt less forgiving overall.
Bottom line if you like a forged feel in your irons, grab the mavrik for the same feel in your big stick. The added forgiveness is nice and if you don't mind a touch more spin, you'll love the mavrik sz. Either way, you're in good hands. I had the rogue sz for 2 years and it was hard to replace so I understand where you're coming from. Find a good deal on a head and you won't look back!
