Bangoman One point to ponder; isn't practically every putter on the market....especially HIGH end....clones? I
Clones being almost the same in spec.
Most the custom shop putters are not "clones" . They might take the shape of the original but the specs are very different. The head size, the weight for head, shaft and grip. The overall balance and "feel" is also far off the original.
Even Ping had been modifying their styles of putter to better suited for the modern greens. Problem with Ping coming out with a "new" Anser2 is..... It's different but golfers still associate it with the old Ping putter no matter it's totally brand new in all the spec. Instead someone else did a similar putter and called it another name.
The perceived value is what's important in the putter market. Anyone believe an ordinary putter cover with custom stitching on it worth 10-20 times of the same cover with no logo on it ? It's a very narrow market with "market makers" creating the market for the obscene pricing.
So before anyone try to create the same, must have "market makers" with lots of dough to create a market.
Scotty Cameron was dead broke several times over before he struck gold. I believed he learned the market making from the custom shop he had in Hawaii dealing with the Japanese buyers.
