I've seen a few guys are using them (or hybrids) just wondering what you've found to be working? I like the looks of the low profile Super Concordes but that design is likely 25 years old. Anything newer , better out there? Even the Integras are old as dirt.
Now to my crazy idea I had. I've been choking up on my 3 wood and can hit it really straight and use it as a layup club on Par 5's and sometimes into par 4's if the green allows a runup. I can get 160 yards with a half (likely more like 75%, but feels like half effort) swing. I can also hit my 5 wood really well this way.
Sooo, I played Saturday in a tournament, but like an idiot I played 3 hours of pickleball the night before and woke up sore as Hell and pretty much just couldn't swing. Couldn't really put any weight on my right side. So after trying to play normally for a couple holes, two 7's, I just went to half swings with everything. Pretty much hit my 3 wood on every shot. So this choke up 3 was working decently considering my condition. I figured why not try the same half swing with a hybrid and iron but not choking up. No luck, no good, for some reason it only works choking up. Maybe by choking up I subconciously swing easier? Who knows.
Sooo, again. I'm thinking of trying higher lofted fw's on longer shafts and then choking down on them and using my half swing thought. I guess my question is does the choking down have any rational reason to working? Like it's a counterweight or something or is it all in my demented mind? Choking down would stiffen the shaft some, no? I mean I choke all the way down to the end of the grip.
Anything I'm missing in trying this? Lie angles and the like? Any other comments other than I'm absolutely crazy?
