Newbie in need of some help. I’m getting ready to build my first set and was looking at buying a 6 inch cut off saw. However, I already have a regular 12 inch miter saw. If I get the proper cut off blade, will I be able to use this to cut the shafts or would it destroy them? (And I know to wrap graphite in masking tape.) I know it would be overkill but I would love to spend seven dollars on a blade versus buy a $50 saw.

Thanks!

Yes, it should if you get a cut-off blade that fits. I've had the cut-off saw and now I mostly use a cut-off mandrel that fits in a drill. I haven't done a full set of irons in a few years, and for 1-2 shafts at a time, it's sufficient. The Dremel cut-off wheels are fine as well, if you have one (or the Harbor Freight clones)

Do you have a bench motor? I took off my grinding wheel and put on a circular cutting wheel.

I use a miter saw. I get composite blades at Home Depot that last many years. I did build a jig out of a piece of 2x4 that acts as a cradle to hold the shaft in place when I make my cuts. Keeps the shaft in place and the heat off the plastic portion of the saw base.

I’d love a picture if you can snap one

I picked up a folding club ruler some years ago. I cut the end of my 2x4 shaft jig to 60° to easily set the angle. I like the ruler you have going. I would have built one like that if I didn't have mine.

Tinker I’ve already got the big miter saw so a blade will be cheaper then the tube cutter plus hacksaw blade.
