Pairings and tee times are scheduled to be announced this afternoon.
I would LOVE to see 21 year old Wilco Nienaber be in Bryson's group. Same distances/ball speed with a quarter the perceived effort. Might get in his head?

I think on this course in particular, that Phil could get away from the traditional Driver.
He could certainly use anything from a 12* to a 14 * club.
azgreg When you look at the stats for driving accuracy, with the leader at 74% and dropping into the 60% category after the top 10, it would never make sense for any Pro to leave the driver out of the bag. They cannot hit the FW with other clubs either, on a consistent basis. Consider the fact that some, quite a few perhaps, of the drives in the accuracy stats, have been with clubs other than driver.
For Pros, they are horrible drivers of the golf ball. Yet, they could hit a bushel basket 18/20 times from 120 yds. with a wedge.
I agree, it's not like they hit 80% of fw's with other clubs. I definitely don't think they're horrible drivers of the ball, though. It's just that they hit it so far they're misses are magnified. When my Dad was still playing at 93 he hit his drives about 180 tops. He never missed a fw because he didn't hit it far enough to get out of the fw. If he hit a bad shot it would land in the right fairway, maybe just off. If I hit the exact same shot but going 230 yards, I'd be deep in the woods. If a guy hitting 300 hit the exact same shot, he'd be off the planet. Plus our fairways are usually much wider.

Not really the length that causes the misses. I've yet to see a Pro hit a straight shot off the tee; and very seldom anywhere on the course.
My wife hates watching golf with me.....yelling at them to hit the ball straight, so it lands in the FW. Just think how low they could go then. Every round.
Typhoon She has never played golf, nor will she ever, and really knows nothing about what she's watching. But yes, she watches. Every week. Even when I'm not home.
I think she's just checking out the guys' asses, and wondering why I have none, when I also golf. Maybe she's searching for an answer.
Par4QC I think she's just checking out the guys' asses,
My wife plays. She also watches more PGA golf than I do. I think she has a giant crush on Jordan Speith and an admiration for many of the other young flat bellies. I can't say much, I have an unhealthy admiration for Jin Young Ko and Sarah Jane Smith.
Did anybody pick the fog/marine layer to win?
A pretty common occurrence this time of year along the SoCal coast.
Greens look kind of clumpy on my poor resolution streaming, but it looks like the putts are rolling smoothly.
johnnydoom Just to prove the effect TW has had on the game, it was him that started her watching. She knew nothing about golf/knows nothing about golf still, but even with him(basically) gone, she now still watches. Her attention the past few years has gone to Rickie. When I say he is hacking up the course some rounds, and is a has-been, she nearly comes off the couch after me.
Early in first round but it looks like a fairly easy layout for the pros. Double digit winner, no old fashion blood bath that I expect from us open. Rough looks low, fairways wide, soft greens. I think the golf game today is about viewing long bomb drives, a ton of birdies and fist pumps. I like the old way but Im an old guy.
