Last year I went with a near 20-year old Maltby Sand Putter I bought from the Bay. Found Maltby's video on how to use it on YouTube and worked on what was suggested but I still wasn't sold on it.
Three different times, on three different courses I left myself with what looked like I could use my Wishon Wide Sole wedges to easily get out. Nope. Left the ball in the bunker all three times.
Since I had carried the Sand Putter with me "just in case", I used it on the second shot out of the bunker and got out all three times. Lesson (finally) learned.
Like others have mentioned for other clubs, it is a one-trick pony. Seems like it should work in deep stuff near the green but I haven't had luck with it. Yes, like the OP I could fuss with my technique to use a more conventional wedge but it's in my head now. The Sand Putter works - I'm using it.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
