Fav Iron and Woods Shafts

Down through the years, what shafts have you appreciated for your irons and woods?

And... if you want, which ones didn't you like?

The two strongest feelings I have about shafts is I love Graphite Design, especially YS 8.1 and Pershing.

My hatred is for any shaft that is yellow because it reminds of the UST ProForce shaft that I don't like at all.

No iron shat has ever moved me very much. I think I dislike anything in stiff flex. Rifle 5.5 seemed pretty good to me and regular flex unknown TT model is in a generic set I have that I really like.

I also fight a Negative AoA, so soft tip stuff helps with that.

Woods Love - Matrix TP5HD, Evo Lite, Icon Lite, Matrix Ozik 7F, Fuji SIX
Irons Love - Nippon Modus 120S, UST Tour Weight graphite, SK Fiber Tour Trac 95, and I have the new Aldila NV85 which is getting close to "love" status.

Ah, I recall a speeder I had in a Cobra FW. That thing was TERRIBLE. Stiffest shaft I've ever hit. Hard to blame the shaft when it's the wrong flex, but man was that one just awful.

EDIT: Reminds me now that I LOVED the shafts in Bobby Jones by Jesse Ortiz hybrids ...a GD model...and the stock shafts in McHenry Metals Tour Pure II.... I think those are the Harrison shafts. And, Zevo compressor stock shafts.

Currently love my UST Mamiya Recoil 110 iron shafts and Oban Devotion 7 fairway shaft. I really like my Accra FX370 driver shaft, but it's not love. I had a Harrison Saga 70 I probably should have kept.

In the past I loved the KBS Tour iron shafts, Aldila DVS 70 wood shaft. Used to love Graphite Design shafts like the YS-7.

I always hated Dynamic Gold iron shafts....they are the Grape Nuts of iron shafts IMHO. Can't think of any wood shafts I hated. I did have a love/hate with the older Accra stuff like the Tour and SC shafts. I think they needed a consistency of tempo that I could never possess.

Man, how could I forget.... I LOVE Black Gold TT shafts for irons. Had them in stiff flex and loved them. Might love them even more in regular flex. Need to investigate that.

I wonder if I have that negative angle of attack you speak of? I haven't hit the ball in 7.5 years but in my mind, I hit them yesterday.

Favorite driver shaft of all time is the Tour Swing Vengeance UL.

I have two XCaliber RT6 shafts in my fairway woods that I like real well. In irons, my favorites were the Mitsubishi Bassara shafts that Adams put in their irons and hybrids. Wish I could still find a whole set of those in Senior flex
at a reasonable price!

-2* Negative AoA roughly, means I can't hit a driver with less than 12* loft unless conditions are super dry and I can get a goof run out.

It also means hitting anything less than a 3W or 6i is normally futile.

I wonder how much that has to do with weight? I couldn't hit a wooden driver as a kid to save my life. Bought a metal wood and all of a sudden could hit the driver really well.

In adulthood, I couldn't hit driver. Those 460cc heads way too big for me. Dropped down to smaller cc head and could all of a sudden hit the ball like gangbusters. Gotta be a connection there. The lighter the better for me.

When I played baseball, I was a very good hitter, but I preferred a bat like a kid would use. Liked them small and light for bat speed purposes. Couldn't hit a baseball to save my life with a full-sized heavier bat.

Wood shafts: Paderson and House of Forged.

Those were all really good IMO. Hard to find heavier shafts that aren't X flex these days lol.

That reminds of a boron shaft that came with a Yonex set I used to love that was graphite instead of steel for the iron head.

My favorite driver shafts are the Mitsubishi Javln shafts. Not sure why but they just work for me. I have a blue one and a maroon one. I also have a Kuro Kage and a Blueboard that wirk well but not as well as the Javln shafts.

Irons shafts are th FST 115'S. That is my go to iron shaft. Current set has KBS Tiur 105's and they are similar. I like them too.
