My buddy's GF had both hips replaced and she was able to go hiking within a few mos.

I'm surprised they kept you in the hospital for two days, I got sent home the same day. Are you married or have someone to help you out at home? I couldn't imagine being home alone those first couple days. It's rough early on but you'll be so glad you did later.

Actually they scheduled all there THR for 4 days, so for me going home was scheduled for Friday afternoon. Most seem to go to a SNF for a week to 10 days, guess they figure or have experienced that seniors are not always the bedt care givers in that situtation. Of course the patient has the option.

My daughter came down to stay with me, walk the pooch, and ensure I dont try and do something stupid.

My feeling better level doubled walking through the front door, no longer in the hosiptal.

Several of golfers at our club have hip replacements, they unfortunately experience some lingering pain after coming home.

But reading various posts here, have given me a very positive outlook.

I don't know if its just this area, but it seems you go in on Tuesday and either get released on Friday or Saturday. Like I said few over 60 go straight home but to rehab center for 7 to 10 days.

Someone is paying.

Just don't try to start playing right away. My old playing partner came back too soon and he paid dearly for it. He was a Navy Seal and of course the pain was nothing that could keep him from coming out and playing, walking 18 three times a week. Not to mention practicing most days as well.
That being said good luck with your transition from the surgery to the golf course. I wish you all the luck in the world and that you will be back playing well before the season is over.

letthebigdogshunt hopefully nobody misunderstands this, seems to me that most of the guys who are 'Tip of the spear' are kinda stupid when it comes to a lot of the pain issues when they don't have to be. Joint replacement is one of those things that can't be 'walked off'.
One needs proper time to heal. Especially when one isn't in the middle of a combat zone, or needing to get back to activate duty.
I do understand that those guys are absolutely amazing at what they are able to go through and still operate at the level they do.

Walterjn The "Tip of the Spear" guys are programmed to ignore the pain, physical or mental, in any given situation. Kind of hard to reprogram after that, even after 40 years...

Thanks, I did not think of it that way. I guess I was just trying to show even if you are tough and oblivious to pain you must still follow your doctors advice.

Please be advised that doing what you are told by the therapists and not overdoing anything in the early stages will most certainly create an excellent outcome for you. This is from a fellow golfer and one who provides PT for orthopedic patients.

letthebigdogshunt that was my whole point. Joint replacement is not a dislocated shoulder, knee, broken hand, or wrenched back. It is NOT something that ANYONE should consider "walking it off". Go to the point where one might consider gutting out, and stop rest and don't push it any further for a while. Push yourself next week and see where you make it in comparison. Take your time and let your body heal.

Martee Actually, the majority of patients who have total hip replacements in my hospital go home rather than short term rehab regardless of age. Of course, if they struggle too much in functional mobility and don’t have assistance at home, STR is then an option. Especially, during these Covid times, the preferred option of all involved is to go home.
