Using Alcohol To Clean Club During Club Build

I see a lot of people posting about using alcohol during a club build. I have always used acetone but I thought I might give alky try. Do you use a drug store rubbing alky or a hardware store denatured type?

This is what I use.
Isopropyl but at 90 +percent if possible.

For you, and your usual cuts and whatnot, this would serve a dual purpose.

Fixed it for ya. My local store only has 70%. I do have lots of denatured already.

I use regular rubbing Alcohol. We have some old alcohol pads I use that cleans up the wet epoxy between the ferrule and shaft or head when I put on a new head or adapter. Works perfectly!

I've never tried water. It might work cleaning off excess epoxy but I don't think it would work too well cleaning out a dirty hosel particularly with a new head.

It doesn't evaporate (which is why I try to use 90+% alcohol) so could be problematic if it squeezes inside a ferrule and it does SFA for glue fingerprints.
Last resort, imo.

Spuzz Alcohol does have water in it, and I use the 91%, like you, for cleaning hosels, as it evaporates very quickly. I'll use the 70% for wiping off excess epoxy.
Denatured alcohol is OK, it just smells bad to make it undrinkable(per law). Typically used for camping stoves, etc..
Alcohol will also contain acetone.

With 40 years experience, owning a shop, and having built thousands of clubs, the best thing for epoxy cleanup is mineral spirits.

Been using isopropyl alky for ever to remove wet epoxy, and it evaporates much
faster than mineral spirits....a little cheaper and easy to find.

darpar Mineral Spirits never evaporate. It is oil based and will leave behind residue. We used it in the shops for rust prevention when running finished machined parts through the wash racks. So, not good for golf use at all.

And I got more than 40 yrs. experience making that statement. 😉

It's a slow rate but it does evaporate eventually.....just leave the lid off a can of thinner for some time.

I find it useful to remove sticky stuff like grip tape residue but I use acetone to remove the mineral spirits residue. I wouldn't trust leaving a mineral spirits residue in a hosel.

I thought you meant wiping the shaft-ferrule-head area after assembly. I use Acetone to clean hosels.

I've been using contact cleaner for years. Works Great at cleaning and dries quickly with no residue.

I use water and soap now. I'm allergic to alcohol... every time I use it I break out in handcuffs.
