How do I spot a counterfeit?

SWMBO bought a TM Mini Spider putter a few months back. She keeps the putter cover on when playing and only takes it off on the greens. We paid $139 new on eBay with headcover. It was a dark red color. IT GOT CHIPPED ALL TO HELL IN JUST A FEW MONTHS WITH THE HEADCOVER ON! I just spent 2 hours stripping the factory paint and am going with white Rustoleum coats plus clear coat. Did we get a fake?

So, what was the question/problem? It says "TaylorMade" on it, correct? 'nuff said.
You'll notice I did not reference what type club you were mentioning. Doesn't matter from TM.
Even Earl Scheib's $19.95 "diamond glossy finish" jobs from 1968 are holding up better.

why not contact TM and see if they’d send a new one out? Maybe they upgraded the paint or process?

Probably not... I was actually reading yesterday maybe on wrx about the new Taylormade putters for this year and they did mention how paint durability is an issue.

It’s the reason I never be picked one up. They putted nice but everyone I no looked at had chips and I couldn’t afford new.

Even the Odyssey putters get banged up... painted shit just doesn’t hold up on clubs. My KBS Custom white shafts... who thought that wa a good idea

Yeah, sure. After 15 years of chipped paint on every head they've made. It's why I try to stay away from TM drivers/fw/hybrids. Check Ebay. Check any sale site. Damn they got lousy paint. It even chips in stores, on the racks.
That putter is 100% TM, if the paint was that bad; no other company could copy that shit.

sdandrea1 Sorry, but just check around. You'll see chips on brand new clubs people are trying to sell. Black markers were most likely made more popular by TM than any other thing.

I don't see how it can get chipped up with the head cover. I've not had issues with any TM club I've ever played.
