It's a lot of fun and can be played at various levels so pretty much anyone in any physical condition can find their level. It's a good social sport too. I've met a lot of nice people at PB.

Golf definitely puts the whammy on my lower back. Haven't had it diagnosed yet, but I almost certainly have a degenerated disc related issue. Still playing since it is not a debilitating pain yet, but I hurt worse than nornal for 2 days after a round. Haven't played in 6 weeks and the back is better than it has been in quite a while, but I've also been doing stretches specifically to try and relieve the pain. Won't know anything until I play again.

One more point. Doing this packing and selling stuff, I've had to lift/move a couple of things that were heavy for me. Instead of hurting my back, I managed to strain my neck (upper traps). I was already thinking I need to get with a trainer and get my upper body muscles stronger. I stretch them now, but not much to make them stronger. This latest ouch has confirmed to me that I need to do that before I give up on golf.

You need to find out if it's structural or muscular that's causing problems. For me, I've had xrays and my spine is in really good shape I just get muscle soreness and spasms from my (bad) swing. It can sometimes be really painful but massage or chiropractic adjustment or even just rest gets rid of it. Mostly though I just feel a little stiff after a round.
If I thought I was doing permanent injury that could really come back to bite me down the road I'd certainly reconsider if it's worth it.

Right. Motion is good. What my PTs have encouraged is a strong core to take the pressure off the other areas.
Seems to work. Like most here, this Winter has been difficult and add some family issues and it is going
to be a difficult Spring Training....lol

Mary jane chocolates. I have periods of foot issues mostly work related. I tried one of those a couple of years ago. I tell you what
..no foot pain for sure. I didn't get high...felt like a had a couple of beers. I can't wait until I retire. I know how to help take care of body aches!

DonM Need a spine fusion L4-L5. I have a cracked vertebrae. I’ve been going to work everyday and averaged a round of of golf most weekends. Ive
subscribed to the swinging easy. I have no choice or get back spasms. I can play and enjoy myself still so I’m putting off surgery as long as possible. If I didn’t have such good diehard golf friends I’d say fuck it. But as long as I can hack it around with these guys,drink , and laugh I’m doing it. As far as sleeping it’s hit and miss for me. I’d be more miserable at home wishing I could play. Hopefully swinging easy keeps the inflammation down for you

bigshank I was diagnosed 3 years ago but it took me about 3 years of it worsening to get into the doc about it. I’ve lost massive distance but still shoot in the 80s. Summertime I get into the 70s on occasion instead of the norm. Warmer weather helps the muscles too. I shouldn’t play in the winter at all

Golf and pain. Something on me hurts all the time. Ibuprofen helps. My massage chair and hand-held massage gun helps. Heat/ice, etc. I love it too much to give it up.

Typhoon I have not tried it. The neurosurgeon I saw this winter for my neck did not suggest it as a possibility. Maybe it’s not right for my condition.

Be careful of cortisone. It's a great pain killer, but at a cost. It can degenerate tissue.

Not a good long term remedy imo. Maybe look into the Marijuana extracts like CBD oil etc.. I use Hank Haney's Voodoo cream for my elbow when it acts up. Hey it works for me. 🙂

These medical pot extracts seem to be a wonder drug according to our doctor. Helps with all kinds of issues. My wife is going to get an evaluation for her to use it for Meniere's disease (inner ear).

if you plan on, or think you’ll have surgery in the near future do not do the cortisone.

Please do go to someone who will help you strengthen your neck and shoulders. Don’t give up doing what you love doing.

I had cortisone in a shoulder after 2-3 years of suffering, it was great and pain relief was almost 100% and instant. First time I swung a golf club a few months later (had it done in winter and weather was not user friendly) ... back to square one. Eventually opted for a clean up op (subachromial decompression I think it was called).

Without that I don't think I could have played golf; pain just worsened the more holes I played and by the end of a round couldn't get more than 120 yards out of my driver. Whatever you have going on I hope you get and follow good medical advice, and get back to playing golf.

Yesterday I hit 40 shots at the range. Today, nothing hurts. That's a first.

I think I can play without pain as long as I can keep swinging easy. It is probably time to look for irons that hit really high without trying. I think that many seniors are messing up their swings with clubs that don't go high enough for them.

Good idea - low center of gravity, modern lofted irons with shafts that don't make you work too hard.

Not that I'm an expert, and I hesitate to recommend clubs to other golfers, but I would suggest either something in the Adams line....I have Adams Idea Tech V3's and V4's, and just picked up a set of A12OS that I haven't hit yet. If you like to build components, any of the Maltbys with a high MPF. All of these are incredibly easy to get up in the air, IMO.

Played 18 today. Stiff as a board now and was pretty stiff swinging all day. More of a strain than a pain right now, but I probably should have popped a couple of preemptive NSAIDS before the round. Hit every club one club short when I hit them well at all. Was a pretty bad round, but more trouble with the short game than the long game.
