Guys, there has been reference to waiting lists of unused shots. Each of the vials that are thawed out hold 6 jabs.
Our county was running through 1000 citizens a day and there will be a few no-shows for whatever reason. Those leftover jabs MUST be used by the end of the day or they are thrown out - a terrible waste.
A friend's 50 something year old wife received a call late one afternoon, early in the process, and asked if she could be at the immunization site within 20 minutes as they had a leftover for her if she could make it in. She high tailed it down and received hers because she is a professor in the local university's School of Nursing and 'knew somebody'. (My friend is a physical therapist so he received his VAX shortly after they were first made available.)
Our county wanted to be more fair in making any excess jabs available so at precisely 8 in the morning daily, if in one of the eligible groups, you can call in and try to get on the wait list for any excess at the end of the day. 2 other friends successfully have done this to get their initial shot.
Find out what your county is doing to dispose of any leftovers. Hopefully they aren't keeping it a secret and calling their buddies to 'come on down'. It needs to be done fairly. Statistically, there are a MINIMUM of 10 shots left at the end of the day and sometimes between 30 and 40.
