Well, I think the answer to that is ... that he's progressed to being able to lean on a club, and watch Charlie hit golf balls.
I would feel more optimistic about this picture if it showed him with his right ankle/foot being the load bearing one ... as that, IMO, will be, along with his preexisting back issues, the greatest obstacle(s) to returning to hitting golf balls (whether competitively or otherwise).
