If I had to guess I would say texting while driving, simply because about 60-70% of the drivers I see on the road in my experiences have their noses in their mobile phones.
Wouldn't surprise me. And if he was driving at a high rate of speed, which was suggested initially, I could easily see how that whole situation became horrible in a hurry with zero reaction time.
I'm no doctor, but is it possible for someone being in a state of shock due to the nature of their injuries cause them to not remember the events leading up to the accident just prior?
Other than that, who knows.
