Bravopilot one of the guys I work with at my little course has been involved with dirt bikes, quads, and the like for many years. He has also been involved in dirt bike crashes where he ended up 100 yards away from where the impact took place, had multiple injuries from crashes, or incidents while on dirt bikes. Not to mention multiple surgeries from crashes, or issues with dirt bikes. He is a full decade younger and I'm still out working him.
I have almost always realized that had I been involved with dirt bikes as I was growing up, I would probably be dead by now. Going fast is fun, flying through the air is fun, that sudden stop at the end, maybe with a couple bounces hurt like hell
I no longer bounce.
The older crowd who was into dirt bikes back in the 60's and 70's are the guys who have suffered the most, lack of good suspension travel has taken its toll on their knees. They were also the guys who started building better suspension so they didn't have to stop riding, or ride longer with less pain.
I went a different direction with 2 wheels. I played on the street where everyone is trying to kill you. I didn't have to jump big air, I just had to avoid being squashed. 😉.
