I'm happy when I take the time to research rather than react.
Our accountant seemed to be lollygagging on our tax returns. They've been in their hands for over a month and I was starting to feel some anxiety over the looming 5/17 deadline....so I asked for a status update. Was told last week our returns were in the "final check" pile and would be completed soon.
It hit today and I hadn't heard anything so I asked again. I mentioned I was concerned about 5/17. I got a reply stating I didn't need to worry because I had no out of state documents that would need to be in before the deadline. I was taken aback by that comment. We've never turned in out of state documents for our tax returns and was told we didn't need to worry until June? June? I could only find things stating federal returns were due 5/17.
Texans were given another 28-day extension due to the ice storm. I wasn't aware of this, but once I found that through some research my anxiety level over our unfinished taxes completely vanished.
