This is all the courts care about, not somebody's ivory tower arrogant and insignificant opinion.

It's too bad P. Reed feels he needs to cheat. He is a pretty darmn good player. I remember reading a story about him manipulating his buried lie in the rough enough that he was able to get a fairway wood on the ball afterwards. I believe the incident was witnessed by a walking commentator for one of the networks. I used to pull for him but that is no longer the case.

I guess it depends on your POV of him personally.

I don’t think he can help himself. Normal wired people with his reputation for cheating would be embarrassed. But if you’re incapable of feeling shame or remorse then there’s no trip wire in his brain to stop his behavior.

For people like him there is no downside. If he gets away with it great. If he gets caught he just claims ignorance. He sleeps well either way.

I agree of course.
My point is also that in court, none of that other "opinion" stuff matters whatsoever.

My other point (similar to Rex) is that they all cheat, so, depending on whether somebody likes a guy or not will determine whether , in their eyes, that person is branded a cheater or not, for similar offences.

It’s difficult for public figures to sue for defamation and win. Reed would have to show that the Golf Channel and Chamblee acted with malice. High threshold.

Just reporting on his cheating and what his reputation is on Tour wouldn’t be enough. Hard to prove damages as well since he signed with LIV for millions of dollars.

The slander and libel rules are quite clear, IIRC.
It only takes one word (usually "opinion") to go one way or another.
eg. Chumlee has either said:
Reed is a cheater or
In my opinion, Reed is a cheater.
I'm guessing there's lots of video evidence that's been PVR'd somewhere, either way.
Reed's history of unproven accusations, innuendos, etc is irrelevant.
Reed could win the lawsuit, and be awarded a dollar in damages, but giving it to Chumlee would be priceless, imo.

I agree and as I said, he may win a dollar, or lose, or a judge tosses it before any court proceedings happen.
Given the ludicrous amount of the suit, it may just be a warning shot to Chumlee to shut his mouth, or a roundabout attempt at getting him cancelled. I am not an insider, like some pretend to be.

Spuzz I went back and see it is a 'defamation' lawsuit. His attorney must be way out of the golf world loop, not to know what has been said/written about him, prior to the PGA or Chambles even knowing him.

My guess is that is likely the case. I would think that the golf channel would offer to shelve the vendetta if they could avoid the legal bs. Doubt they really want to spend the money defending the right to grind on Patrick.
