Not me. Most of the time I do, but I don't really care whether I do or not. And yes, tamping down the grass behind the ball is every bit as bad as removing sand from the back of the ball, perhaps even worse as the ball almost certainly does move each and every time they set the club down close to the back of the ball in the rough.

Every time I did it, the ball did return to it's original position, so I guess that is not an infraction. But, my 'lie' was improved by the flatter grass behind the ball. So....that's why they do it several times, esp. in that thicker rough. = cheating. And they all do it. Every round.

Like I said earlier, if nothing else it will irritate Chumblee and maybe shut him up in the future.
or, he will preface everything he says with IMO, instead of saying things like it's written in stone as fact.
However, at that point, he loses his "expert" credentials and becomes just another GC talking bobblehead like Damon Hack and the Baconator.

In the x and y axis, yes. Vertically, when you press the blades that are holding the ball up in the back down, the blades fold over and do not have the have enough spring to lift the weight of the ball back to it's original position. So now the ball is sitting a little lower and more on top of folded grass than nestled in between vertical blades. Slightly less grass to get between the ball and club face, and slightly less room to go under the ball and potentially whiff it or hit higher than is desired on the face. That in addition to flattening out the other grass that is behind the ball but not directly contacting it. None of it constitutes a significant advantage, but there must be something to it since they all do it.

We had a local Canadian Golfsmith outlet here, where I got a lot of stuff from, but they did not have golf balls, especially cheaper ones in a giant bin, or practice balls like the Prov's.
I also got a few boxes of Strata Tour Ace balls too.

Sneakylong and who is that about. Plenty of asshole parents, siblings etc, it takes two! One certainly cannot erase the past, but one should not assume he's not a good man to his wife and kids! People can change and if that happens to be with his wife.and kids/immediate family, yet still is loose with the rules on the course, is that not a good thing. Don't conflate one with the other.

Reed comes across as a little off to me. Fake. From his past college days to his cheating Pro days it looks like he never changed.

If you're accused of cheating and stealing from your college teammates and get kicked off the golf team and you continue to openly cheat and plead ignorance when caught there's a pattern there.

Serial cheating and getting caught would indicate not having a conscience. People with sociopathic tendencies don't feel remorse or embarrassment for their actions.

Reed obviously never learned from his transgressions or punishment. Can a person change? Absolutely. But Reed has shown no indication of changing. There is no cure for lack of remorsefulness or empathy. It's how he's wired.

ode I don't judge from heresay, or by what someone might do on a golf course. Esp., from the golf course standpoint. There just is not all that much integrity throughout the world any more. I play alone 99% of the time. What I do out there is what I do. But, when reporting any scores, I'm not the only one judging me. IF, he was watching, which I seriously doubt. No one wants to witness that shit for 3+ hours. 🤣

Nearly every meeting I'm on, most of the discussion is about stuff that doesn't exist, but most don't know it. Can be entertaining at times, and sad.

Often just disgruntled emoyees who won't or can't be competent and diligent. I occasionally get a real case with real issues. Those are always interesting and usually rewarding.

If the agency side of the table isn't hearing substantial facts, there's no middle. Just "see you in court" which many times is followed up with "wait, can I reconsider"?
