Yeah, the powers that be are too invested in protecting par along with protecting these legacy courses that are used for Majors (scores related to par). Limits already exist on both the golf ball and equipment. No need to roll anything back.
The only thing they can't limit is a golfers athleticism. They like to use the argument that these legacy golf courses are becoming obsolete. That's only true when using par as the metric.
They also say they can't be extending or building courses to 8000 yards because of resource usage (water etc.). But again, it's all because of protecting this arbitrary number called par.
If just keeping 'a' score was used and forget about par there would be no problem. It's basically a solution in search of a problem. And as we've discussed there are ways to toughen courses.
Plus, although I'm in favor bifurcation Seth Waugh is against it. And from his perspective I understand it. But for 99.5 % of golfers the game is way too hard already.
I'd love to see what manufacturers could do unleashed with no restrictions. The fact that limits are placed on equipment for such a tiny percentage of golfers is ridiculous.
Most hackers whether high functioning or not could use more help making the game easier not harder.
