Spuzz You'll notice a lot of these guys never practice the $1.4M putt, apparently. They need to rethink their range time. I don't think the putting stroke gets ingrained as the 'club' swing does. Don't touch any club for a few months, go out to play, what is the poorest thing you got going that round? And it's the only club in the bag that will cash a $1.4M check, when that check is on the line.
Tony is very lacking in cashing the biggest checks with his putter. Not the club he used to hit in the bunker, or the one he used to hit in the rough. 1 putt will make up for those 2.

Sure the putts stand out because they're the last shot but as you said he DID hit that shot in the bunker when a ball on the green would have allowed him to two putt and move on. Choking is choking. He just plain underperforms under pressure. Maybe if he wins one somehow that will all go away.

He's been messing around with different putting grips and now he's messing around with ball position (further away) and flatter lies with his putter too. It was very noticeable on that last putt in the playoff.
I notice he over reads putts on Sundays, aside from yanking short irons or missing the fairway when it counts the most of course.
Too bad, but he has lots of kids and none are going hungry, so there's that.

Spuzz I see certain guys choking on those 2-3' putts a lot on Sunday, esp. when near the top. Always the big names. The guys like Burns, yesterday, will do it off the tee, as he did. I'm not worried though, as he gets better, he will choke on those putts instead. Be sure of it.

My wife hates watching on Sunday, with me. Countless times I've said...."He's gonna miss this one".....and 'he' has. You just know when it's going to happen, from TW to Tony Finau to Adam Scott(huge putt choker, btw) to......???... the name does not matter.

Spuzz Hate to agree with a statement like that, but I do. He's been there too many times. This time really was proof as he played great until he got in the mix. If he wins again he's going to have to come from behind and sit in the clubhouse with the lead while others gag it up. Maybe in Ryder Cup he can find something to get going or he needs to play some money matches with Phil.

My thought was if they practice daily for say a couple hours, how much of that time is relegated to the most important part of the game? I don't see the putting 'stroke' being an ingrained movement, as the 'swing' is.

Whether he wins or not, I love watching Finau play. A guy twice as big as me hitting the ball twice as far as me with a backswing that almost looks about the same length as mine 🙁.

johnnydoom Yet, we do not hate him. I too love watching. Remember him and his brother from many years ago, when they were hitting over 400 yds.. He has come a long way since!

I'd like to think Finau will figure it out. He's so good that he's in contention regularly so at some point I'm thinking that he'll get pissed off at himself and be so determined to win that he will. Other players have seemed to turn the corner and do that so no reason he can't once he figures out what he needs to do. Or maybe Finau will finish 2nd so many times that he will break Jack's record?

I thought Homa's Houdini act on the first playoff hole (the short par4 10th with his drive appearing to be stymied up against the tree) was Seve-esque. Perhaps it was the camera angle, but it appeared to be an impossible situation to get his pitch anywhere on the green. Would've been a world class up-n-down to win it then and there.

Finau is streaky, but it does surprise me that he's only got one win, which was nearly 5 years ago.

bigshank He went on to caddy on the PGA, for several players. Also was on BB7 Reunion; won a new car and $5K. He could beat himself to death, I'll say that much. Probably the reason he never made it.
