Both were to me. They kept saying Kuchar was closer to the hole but it sure didn't look like that to me. Especially the second one, Kuchar was along side the green and Scheffler was back over the water?

It's a shame it has to be so windy today. Supposedly, these guys are all right on their games, having
won several matches in a row to get to the last day. We've all played on days like this, and we know
you can't play your normal game under these conditions. We won't see many birdies today, I'll bet.

I see it differently (probably because I play in windy conditions quite often - if you wait for a calm day to play in Scotland, you won't be playing very often!) - if there's a bit of wind around, it's a much better test of a player than calm conditions. When there's no wind, the pros are basically hitting a shot to a number, without much need to think. If it's windy, they need to think a lot more - the ball will go further or shorter depending on the type of shot you hit (a fade into a right-to-left wind won't go as far, while a draw will go a good bit further, for example, or the low shot under the treeline will be affected less than a standard high shot), the right place to miss a green could change (you really don't want to leave yourself a downwind pitch shot to a green sloping away from you, even if you have plenty of green to work with!) Wind also adds to the uncertainty - you're going to get some good breaks and some bad breaks, and dealing with those adds to the challenge.

It's also matchplay, so it's the same for both players. (It is a little bit unfair when being in the right part of the draw gives some players significantly easier conditions to play in...)

garyt1957 apparently it's where the ball lie, before the drop. I find that very odd as it was in the hazard and not playable. If it were in the hazard and playable I could see that being the case. Weird. I have no issue with him dropping in the first cut, but his stance with left foot on the railroad tie/landscaping was problematic. His feet were not level and with his quirky leg drive, he was asking for it. Go back another foot!

I'm enjoyig the tough conditions. I played in them yesterday, the only difference I can see is the number of clothing layers. Let them get blown around and have to do something other than throw darts. And while we're at it - get a freakin' move on. Over 4 hours for singles matchplay ..? Wind or not that's way too slow.

Absolutely - a two-ball match should take no more than 3 and a half hours, even under tournament conditions (and that should be more like 3 hours...)

of view, where we're used to seeing birdies, etc. instead of guys having to scramble and work hard for pars. Just
two different points of view, and each one valid. And I totally agree with "get a move on....!"

Playing in windy conditions is a different type of game, but it's still golf - no change to the goal of finding a way of getting the ball into the hole in as few shots as possible, just a different challenge.

Regarding pace of play - probably a daft idea that would never happen, but it would be interesting if there was an official with every game, driving in a cart with a football-style play clock, able to give out warnings and penalties for not playing a shot in time...

It's already happened but I don't know if it continues that way this year. 2020 it was a post-lockdown event dualled with the Challenge Tour and I can't remember if they were on the clock.

MartinD I would love to see a shot clock on shots from the tee box and fairway, say 15 secinds or something, and then maybe twice that amount of time for putts, with the ability to get extra time for one or two tee-to-green shots and one or two putts.

Pat Perez would prolly be the world's number one player, lol.

Today was his 35th Top 3 finish in PGA Tour events.

Incredibly difficult conditions, for sure. I was rooting for Kuchar, but he just really struggled putting today. They all did, very few putts were made from what I watched. Except Horschel, who was a machine on 3-4 footers. I don't think he missed one in 36 holes today.

At our level, I've found that putting (for me) is very stressful in wind that strong. Setting up over a putt, ready to go, and being hit with a huge gust... it's unnerving. And it doesn't do much for my swing mechanics either!

Two things get my mechanics really messed up. Scramble events (I was often the last to hit so I could just let loose) and wind. It would take me a few rounds to recover my normal swing, it seemed.

Congrats to Billy. Was rooting for Scottie, who reminded me so much of a larger version of Seve today! So many times they would reference Chi Chi but I think that's because Azinger and Seve had some bad blood re: Ryder Cup. Paul kinda downplayed it, but back then it was definitely real. I'm sure that's changed somewhat over the years, especially since Seve is no longer with us.

But Scottie just doesn't have the control, with the way he swings, on days like today. But on calm days - that dude is a gamer. Very impressed with his game overall, lots of good things coming his way I think.

PA-PLAYA Scheffler has a loosey-goosey swing that reminds me of golf swings from the 1970s. Not a modern swing at all.
When it works, it works, but it depends so much on precise timing. Getting really tired and having a lot of pressure at the same time are a recipe for disaster with that loose, somewhat disconnected swing.

Fun to watch this 'son of Calcaveccia' swing. Seems like a good kid.

I watched most of the whole tournament. Sundays event was kind of boring to watch. The limited number of players playing a tough course in tough conditions. Plus I'm sure they were all tired. Until the final few holes of the top pair there wasn't a whole lot of excitement.
