Has anyone tried a Calloway Magna ball? Ordered a dozen and they didn’t come until after my last round.

meagain I remember the old Top Flite Magna balls. Kinda liked them. Remember putting them in my hand operated ball washer and they were larger in diameter.

I remember those, used to play them when they first came out. They were advertised as oversize and I was never sure they were within the Rules limits. Guess so, otherwise they wouldn't have sold many. Unless it was just you and I buying them ...

All I know is if I played the old Magna, I wouldn't have a Journey song as my theme song, I'd have a particular AC/DC song crankin' as my theme.

I guess physics says a bigger ball experiences more drag in flight. Reviews I have read say high speed swings get less distance on drives and more distance on irons. They also say chipping is much easier. I’m not a big swing speed guy anyway and I’d gladly trade a few yards of driver carry for longer irons and easier chips. Putting on the carpet it seams easier for me to control distance. The heavy hitters may just loose ball speed because it’s a Chrome soft low compression.

A larger ball is harder to get in the hole on marginal putts as well.

SMT I’ll have to try it on a real green to see for myself. It could be tougher with the pin in but I don’t like the pin in anyhow.

So we make the pros play a Magna type ball with a short tee and the distance "problem" is solved!

Tinker I agree. I don't like the pin in either. But, as far as the larger ball goes, It is really only math. You can only fit so many of the larger balls across the size of the cup. It is less than the standard 1.68" balls. A ball the size of a marble would be far easier to make in the hole as you could fit far more of those across the hole.
