Rickochet The 3rd party extended warranties are basically insurance policies. Do you believe in insurance?
Depends. Read the fine print; who does the warranty actually cover, you, or the insurance company?
Bought a used car several years ago, added on a 3rd party warranty......seems they must all cost exactly $1000, from reading these posts. Fast forward to when the transmission went bad. It sat in the repair shop for over a month while I argued with the warranty company about the repair. Rebuild was around $2300. They won't pay for rebuilds, which is a repair, which is why I got the damned warranty. They said, 'used', is also a repair and much cheaper. Yes, by a couple $100. Repair shop located 1 in CA and of course had to wait on shipping, which was 1/2 the cost of the purchase.
Years layer, bought another used car, that came with balance of warranty. Within 2 weeks we started having some troubles and took it in. 2 bad sensors. 1 cost $23, the other $200+. 1 was covered with the warranty, 1 was not. Game time......which 1 was covered??????
Screw extended warranties, but more so, those that sell them. Read the paperwork closely, all are outside vendors. And the dealers do get kickbacks, and most apparently, do not check these companies out beforehand for their "values".
