It's much nicer here today. It's up to -5° with only 9 mph wind. We did end up going to
Minneapolis yesterday to watch the Vikings squeak one out against the NY Giants. We
probably shouldn't have gone but my daughter-in-law had over $1000 invested in the
tickets so we took off about 8:15 AM. The 511 web site showed all state roads in our part
of the state as closed. The road we left on didn't have the lights and crossbar that closes the
road as it was a county road, not state. We headed east and much of the westbound side of
the road had snow drifts on it. We transitioned onto state roads that I assume were still "closed"
but there were no lights there either so we kept going. When we finally reached a 4 lane road, it
also didn't have lights, etc. so we forged on. We were driving between 30 and 60 mph all the way
for the first 90 miles depending on whether there were snow drifts or not. That first 90 miles of the roughly 180 mile trip was actually on what I suppose was technically closed roads. We passed several vehicles that were left stuck in the drifts and at one point I thought we were going to join them. We got to a place where there was a snow drift all the way across the road and about 6'-7' tall on the west bound side and about 2' tall on our side. Someone had busted through it sometime earlier so we could see the wheel tracks and headed for them. The drift was much longer than I thought and about 10' from the end were were almost stopped. I thought we were done but my little Ford Edge kept chugging away and finally made it. There was a car stuck on the westbound side that had vaulted on top of the 6'-7' side. We had to look up as we went passed to see it. We finally arrived at the stadium about as the game started. It took some time to find parking as almost all lots were full by then. We heard the Vikings first TD as we entered the stadium and then another field goal before we got to our seats at the other end of the stadium. It was a great game and the Vikings won it on a last second 61 yard field goal. Our seats were great. We sat in the end zone and were almost behind the goal post (about 15 yards behind the goal post) where the winning field goal sailed through. Most of the Vikings other scores were to our end zone too. Our trip home last night was almost as "hairy" as the drive to the game but we made it by about 9:30 last night.

mulegolf Wow....quite a story! Glad you didn't have to eat those tickets (not to mention the
$1000 they cost). That's a "Christmas Story" that your family will remember for years! The fact that your team
won was icing on the cake.

Our blizzard warning has ended and we are now in a snowsquall warning. All roads in the county have been closed since Friday afternoon. Hope to get them open by tomorrow afternoon if the weather cooperates. Wind has died down somewhat. Never got the really cold temperatures. Windchill got down to about 0 deg F (-18C). Blown out the driveway twice do far and will have to do it again tomorrow.

DonM That sounds like something I would have done when I was 19!

I told my wife and kids that it was just like my whole career working at a 911 dispatch center.
In 32 years I only missed one day of work due to snowstorms. I drove 35 miles each way and
spent many miles dodging snow drifts and part time on the wrong side of the road to get around them.

Shit, it was 78 today. I got to walk around the course 2x. Played like crap, maybe 3 pars all day...
Best of all, the guy who runs my little 9 hole course firmly believes that on Christmas day golf should be free. It's his gift to all who show up to play. Free greens fees, you want a drive cart, you can pay for it.

johnnydoom It's a strange world this winter. I would never expect to see the weather you are getting down there. I smh because I was trying to think of maybe some place decently close to drive to, that would be warm enough for golf, this winter. I guess the closest, in reality, is AZ. 😄 And no way am I diving that far. Looks like I'll wait til Mar/April here.
