Walterjn We have a woodstove insert in the fireplace
We used to live out in the "country." When the "Blizzard of '78" struck, we were without power for two days
with three little kids and nothing to heat with but a big, inefficient fireplace! The next summer, we bought a
fireplace insert, and since we lived in front of a woods, I had an unlimited supply of firewood (I had an agreement
with the farmer who owned the woods that I could cut up anything that was already fallen on the ground!)
That fireplace insert kept us plenty warm (almost too warm some nights!), and saved us a ton of money in
propane costs. The house we live in now (the old family homestead where I grew up) could use a fireplace
insert, since it's older and not very well insulated. But we've made it through this brief ordeal without too much
inconvenience though, so I'm hoping this is one of those "once in a generation" storms they're talking about
on tv.....!!
