(Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.)
We are spending the summer in suburban Chicagoland. Enjoying the grandkids and the cool weather!
I arrived from Texas as an 8 index from playing a course that is wide off the tee but has tough target-golf green complexes. Here I’m playing a muni that’s a lot tighter off the tee, but most of the greens offer open run ups. And are softer. After 7 rounds my index is already nudging 10. 😒
It’s hard to make par from the trees. And surprisingly easy to make double or triple. In Texas I never practiced my driver. Well I’m working on it now.
I joined a so called senior league for two days a week. It is just a a bunch of guaranteed times at a discount, with a closest to the pin and that’s it. Scores don’t matter. But it’s good. I’m walking, which I love. I bought a 2 wheel pull cart for $25 at the local PIAS. We get around in under two hours. My partners struggle to break 50 but we keep moving.
I have two nemesis holes. Long skinny dogleg par 5 with a risky green. In 5 rounds I am 8 over par on it. Followed by an unreachable dogleg par 4 with bunkers in the “lay up” zone, plus a protected green. I’m 7 over on that one. I have tried safe tee shots etc. Well, I like a challenge.
Yesterday was wretched. I only hit one fairway and one green, and shot 49. Today I had my normal game back, and shot 41.
