Quite an "odyssey" today to get in a round of golf. We have one guy who has played with us for several years,
but has moved up into SE Michigan to live in his lakefront home permanently. He still drives 2 hours one way to
play with us every Tuesday.....so once a year, we all drive up to play HIS home course so HE can sleep later for a
change! Well, TODAY was supposed to be that day.
We car pooled in 2 cars, but about halfway up there it began to rain. Sure enough, he called me to say he had
been in touch with his course, and it was unplayable and closed for the day. So, we turned around and started trying to think of a course on the way home that we could stop and play (after it quit raining). We stopped for breakfast
and began working our cell phones and found a nice small town course that some of us had played before,
Ironwood Golf Club in Wauseon, Ohio.
Long story short, the rain they had resulted in cancelling their regular morning play, so they were glad to slot us
in at 11:00 a.m. The course was in great shape, NOBODY around due to rain, so our two groups flew around
in a little over 3 hours!! I shot 37-37-74, my best in several weeks, with 10 GIR, 2 birdies, and 30 putts!! So
what could have been a missed opportunity turned into a pretty good day on the course!
