Walterjn Just wait
Weirfan I use something similar, only my Skechers are slip in. I meant to say, no more shoestrings for me. However, my golf shoes are FootJoy and tie.
I shot 40-39-79 this morning at Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon, OH. Didn't play all that great, but chipped and putted VERY well, which was good, b/c this Arthur Hills links style course is one of the toughest we play (used to host the US Open local qualifier there!). Only 4 GIR, but 27 putts and 1 birdie!!
Still wearing replaceable spikes and laces
I think I'm going to try and sneak out today when I leave the hospital. Should gohome and sleep but I can sleep when I'm dead I guess. Damn, just saw rain in the forecast for later.
A bit of a strange round for me today - mixed results in terms of ballstriking, but the bad ones ended up in decent places and my short game was working well (several chips and pitches that ended up close). Add in a few nice putts from mid-range, and a real bonus on the 13th (25 feet with about 4 feet of break, with the ball going into the hole sideways), and I had 21 putts in a one-under 67.
Was not looking forward to getting up at 5:30 a.m. on a Sunday to play any type of golf, esp. in the rain. Best ball 4some started at 8 and it was raining. Got to the point it was intermittent, but still got wet. Wind picked up a bit and kept it going South, so after a few holes we were good, but still soaked. Temp steady at 66.
Great day, as it turned out and very glad I didn't fake illness and miss it.
There were chip-in birdies, there were Par 4 greens being driven, and not always with the driver....fer chrissakes! Very strange feeling standing on a Par 4 & be putting for eagles; a couple of which did make the card, along with several birdies....nary a bogey even though we did butcher a Par 5, for a par, which gave us -12. And we all know that was never going to be good enough.
Had 1 hella putt for longest(& birdie), and then stood and watched a fella behind us wipe me out. He ended up with the prize.
Most shocking part of the whole day..........4.5 hours!!! No backups on any hole, and there were more than 18 teams.
I played a scramble yesterday, too. Gave us ten feet of string but no mulligans. Tao of the guys on my team likely only play twice or three times a year.
I hit some really good shots, including a 9-iron to three feet on one hole, but the also some pretty bad ones. My putting, normally my strong suit, was middling. Greens were super slow and I never really got used to it.
We shot 19 under and finished fourth.
I hurt my right wrist hitting a mid-iron fat in wet ground, then aggravated it bu doing it again after the round hitting a bucket of balls. Hurts a little but still, but I think it'll be fine.
Really wanted to finish in the money and it's my mediocre putting that kept that from happening.
