Our official men’s league has started back up for the season. We had a beautiful day for it, although cold to start. I began with a double and two bogeys so I thought I was toast. But I made a lot of pars, then finished with a double to shoot 82. That won me first place gross in the second flight. I think it will be about 50 bucks net.
I had only 5 GIR. My swing was pretty clunky. I had 31 putts, including some great par saves. My putter was the moneymaker today.
I’m trying out my 8 hybrid from Eleven Golf. So far it is pretty solid. Twice I hit it over trees with no stress. I’m going to give it more time but I am leaning towards getting the full set from 4 or 5 to PW.
Played 9 yesterday, got involved in a 2 man team scramble from the forward tees. My partner and I ham and egged it the entire time. I hadn't played in a week, so it was a good thing he was hitting well off the tee. My best tee shot was on hole 6, it's about 215 to the center of the green. I hit a nice 5 iron to just short of the green. My partner stubbed his chip, I bumped a 9 iron to about 3' to the left of the hole, made the birdie putt. When it was all said and done, we went around 9 holes at even par of 29. We were even par through 3, birdied 4, par on 5, birdie on 6, par on 7, bogey on both 8 & 9.
Although I didn’t play, I worked indoors and decided to have my pro help me figure out how to keep my right foot down on the downswing with my driver. After 30 minutes of starting slow and eventually ramping up, the video looked good and the ball was getting out there. My right foot/knee was a huge power leak. Feels really good and powerful. Psyched
I shot 80 despite 3 three putts and a four putt. Two doubles and one birdie. Two penalty strokes.
Ball striking was excellent. 10 GIR. I got on a par five in two great shots; that was the birdie.
Our team played well and won the top money.
Our match play tournament starts tomorrow. I hope I’m still getting 9 strokes after today’s score posts.
Typhoon figure out how to keep my right foot down on the downswing with my driver.
Shades of Kenny Perry.
First round of match play. It was about 60 degrees and overcast, with a 20 MPH north wind. It felt like it was 40 degrees. CPO and muddy, so we played the ball up. I had to give 2 strokes to my opponent. I played well and he didn't, so I won 7 & 6. I was 4 over par for 12 holes, with 17 putts. I only hit 3 greens but I made a lot of putts.

Such a sloppy short game front nine. Back nine: 2 bogeys, 6 pars, 1 EAGLE. Par 4, #16, drive got me to the 100 yd marker. PW found the hole. Made my day. Team win 1st in total quota. We were +6 to our quota.
Good job, Steve! I'm still awaiting my first hole out from a fairway. Never had one. If it had happened to me, everyone on the entire course would have been able to hear my shouts.
Still waiting for some magic to kick in. After a 3 putt on #1 for bogey, rolled in a tricky birdie on #3, and was cruising along until shanking an 8i on #5. I then went on quite a funk for 4 holes where 1 shot each hole was a complete mess. Made an adjustment on #10 tee which worked, 7/7 FW and 7 greens on back. Of course, no putts went in. +4 on the day, and I butchered the 4 simple Par 5s, +3 on those total when I average -1 on those 4.
80 at Tarpon Springs. No birdies. Windy this morning. Had a storm come thru yesterday so it was cart path only. We were first off at 7:00. Sunrise wasn’t until 7:16.
So we couldn’t follow our tee shots. First drive ended up on the left. Had ~ 175 in and hit my 5 wood. Couldn’t see that one either. Got up near the green and there it was ~ 15 feet past the hole.
Probably should play in the dark more often.
