Beautiful day for golf, but not a beautiful round. I had the shanks right from the get go during warmups and they stayed with me. Including short game. Plus bad putting. 89.

The divots were outside in, so that probably was giving me the hosel rockets. I need to fix that before tomorrow's round. It's a cruel, cruel game.

VigilanteTrail Buddy pulled up to a stop sign, near an old country church. I looked up and saw a squirrel sitting on a limb maybe 20-30' up. I jumped out of the car, grabbed my shoe, and threw it at him.

I'm 1/1 squirrel hunting without a gun.....as dead as if he was hit with a golf ball!! 🤣

Shot 45 gross 37 net on Innisbrook Copperhead during Sim league playoffs tonight…we took 14 of 20 points… on to next match tomorrow night…

…still in the running for 3rd place at best since we were eliminated from championship bracket last week (tied that match but went to tiebreaker rules & we lost)

Along the lines of the squirrel and goose sagas I once killed a blackbird that was in flight. I teed off at our par 5 7th hole
which has a creek about 60-70 yards from the tee box. A blackbird came flying across about that time and the ball drilled him from the side. Feathers flew and the blackbird ended up floating by in the creek, dead. The ball ended up landing on the far side of the creek, in play but very short of where it was headed.

41 at Riverfront in Suffolk, VA. 49 degrees and breezy when we teed off, it was in the mid-to-high 50s when we finished. Really hard course. Wicked fast greens with mounds and hills. Some 18-foot putts break 10 feet or more. Fairways all basically hardpan because of dormant, short grass. No double bogeys. Four pars and five bogeys.

The brand new driver was a revelation. If I could have hit decent iron shots I could've scored pretty well. I was thinning most of my irons off the hardpan. Once the grass awakens, I feel like I will be primed for a good season.

Another nice day (for March) in Missouri. About 47 when we teed off, about 53 when we finished. Clear blue skies.

46/46. A bit disappointing as I drove the ball fairly well, putted well, some good shots around the green, some not so good shots. Same from the fairway.

Got around in 3:40 which is decent for CPO.

93 today in the senior golf league. A beautiful day but a frustrating round where I hit the driver pretty well but couldn't score. Approach shots, chipping, putting were all mediocre. On our next to last hole (par 3) I fatted my tee shot 50 yards short of the green, then hit it to 3 feet and made the par. It felt like the only hole where I was happy with how it turned out.

We had the same beautiful weather as @MidwayJ .
86 with 8 GIR and 37 putts. 4 doubles. Putting and chipping was not good. The greens are crusty and fast. Lots of break, even in short putts. I’m hitting it on my intended lines but I’m not figuring them out.

On the bright side, very bright, I realized something that I’ve been doing wrong in my setup. My irons were much better. I go through this at least every year. What feels good is not what is good.

I hit and parred all four par 3s. Three of them with 6H and the long one with 7W. I got two of the greenies, but didn’t make the putts.

Our team was beaten like a drum. DFL.

Quest for under par continues. Finally starting to see some putts drop. Mental error on #6 - a 3 shot par 5 with a wide fairway, so that is usually where I try an adjustment with the driver prior to 3 tough driver holes. Unfortunately, the adjustment resulted in a 60 yard pull into a street which should not be in play. Did birdie on the 2nd ball, so only a bogey to go +2. Good middle 6 got me back to even after 12. But the home course has a tough final 6, and I was +4 coming in.

Did try a 7.5* driver head today (same model as my usual 9*) to bring the flight down a bit. The good drives were really good. The not good ones were bad. I think it will work.

mulegolf Along the lines of the squirrel and goose sagas I once killed a blackbird that was in flight.

I also once hit a drive that hit a bird in flight. The bird literally exploded and nothing but feathers seemed to come down. Looked like the bird flew right into it.
Playing with my Dad he hit a liner off the tee that dropped a squirrel . He was bitching about the yards it cost him on his drive. Finally he starts to feel bad for the squirrel. Just as we drive up the squirrel pops up from the dead and runs off. No way I thought it could survive a direct hit like that.

41 gross 33 net on Bountiful Ridge (SLC) front 9 at Sim league late shift…we are now officially eliminated.

Yet another tied match & another loss via the tiebreaker rules…oh well.

Great season with plenty of stories & mucho laughs with the guys…looking forward to real golf season now…🤣

78 with 2 birdies (back to back). Good ball striking day. Hit some killer drives and fairway woods. Nice and straight with some having a nice little draw. Hit some nice high approach shots with my irons as well.

Putting and chipping weren't as good, except for the 2 birdie putts. Just two of us and we were first off at 7:20 and were done at 10:11. Nice cool morning, but sunny.

92 on Tuesday, 87 today. Seriously slumping. Driving it well, putting well, everything in between sucks. Making double and triple bogeys. Good thing the company is good.

We played CPO today in a light mist. I shot 79 with an asterisk. We had 2 holes closed for flooding so we are given net pars. Those holes are not likely pars for me but that’s the league rule.

I only had pars and bogeys. No 3 putts. Short game was very good. I’m finally changing for real to a Bermuda grass short game. I am purging my old northern habits. Heel up/ toe down, some forward lean, a brisk stroke, minimal turf interaction but not none. This is for tight lies, which is all we have until the grass gets growing. My northern method of using the bounce with a relaxed stroke is history. After Wednesday’s round, I buried it. RIP.

So, I haven't been much into golf for the past 10-12 months. On nice days I would choose between golf (mostly alone) or fishing (mostly alone). I pretty much chose fishing, as it was free and I could leave anytime!

However, Friday I finally decided to head out to the course. I asked for a small bucket and 9 hole cart, only to be informed the range was closed due to rain the night before! So I headed to #1 with no warm up and not having hit a ball in about 8 months. I sliced the first shot, but took a breakfast ball and sliced it as well but not as badly. I think I deserved a redo! Then I bladed the approach into the uphill slope in front of the green and got up and down for par.

Hole #2 was a slice with the driver, but I found it and had a punch toward the green. Made a good shot, just short but mishit the chip and 2 putted for bogey. Sliced the tee shot on a Par 3 and again did not get up and down for another bogey.

Hole 4 Par 5, hit a short drive in the fairway. Second shot with 3W felt good but immediately lost it in the cloudy sky, no idea where it went. Dropped and hit a yellow ball to hopefully see it and did down the right side. Found the first one just right of the fairway 40 yds out. Made a really good half swing approach and left myself with a 20 ft uphiller for birdie which I missed short left. Par.

Another par 3 I severely sliced right and bogeyed. Next hole was another Par 5. At this point I have figured out I have been pulling my head up and spinning out causing the slices. I concentrate on head down through the swing and hit a good drive, end up 245ish out and have to carry water short. Pull 3W again and make a great pass ended just right in 2. got up and down for my first birdie of the year. Next hole I blade a PW long left then chunk the wedge shot and 3 putt for double.....

#8 shortish Par 5, hit a short drive off the heel but in play. Hit 2h high and right into pine trees. I have a line to the hole and hit a punch gap wedge off the pine straw that lands just short and rolls in for Eagle!

Last hole I again hit a Baby Huey fade right under a cedar tree. Hit the best iron shot of the day onto the green 20 ft short of the hole. Make the uphill right to left putt for birdie and card a +1 37.

I never knew golf was this easy! I should just quite my teaching job and go Pro!
