Yesterday evening I was a sub in a league that uses a 9-hole 2-man scramble format. My partner was a younger guy (Tim) who I used to play with regularly. He played terrific and carried me most of the round. We used all his drives on the par 4s and 5s. I used to get within 15-20 yards of him but he was out driving me by 40 last night. (I never hit a really good one, but it still made me feel old, lol.) We shot a 33 with four birdies, one bogey, and a disappointing 3-putt par on a par 5.
The match was tied going into the last hole. Tim hit another stellar drive to 90 yards out and I hit a gap wedge to 8 feet. After I lipped out the putt he made it to win! Ninety yard gap wedge shots were apparently my specialty. The short par 3 #2 was playing 90 yards to a front pin, and I hit it to less than 2 feet for our first birdie.
