I got beat 2&1. I could not have played worse on the front nine. On four holes, 5 through 8, I had 27 strokes. Then I changed to a different ball and played a lot better the rest of the way. You'd be surprised how often that works!
I was 3 down after 7, and again after 12. He started leaking oil on 12 like maybe he was worn out, and I got to 1 down on the 16th tee. We both hit the big green on the long par 3 16th. He lagged a 70 footer to 6 inches for a net birdie(!!!), and I missed my 40 footer. So he's up 2 with 2 to play. On par 5 17th he is everywhere but the right places. From a greenside bunker, I hit to 6 inches for a 5. He is 40 feet above the hole in 5. He sinks the putt (!!!) for the net par to win the match.
Super nice guy. 88 years old and honestly he hit his driver extremely well and very far for his age. He plays a SLDR 460 9.5 degrees. The original SLDR. Yikes.
Thursday I play in the consolation bracket. My opponent is tough as nails, and I have to give him 2. I hope I find my swing by then. Re-reading that, I might need to think about my mental game. π
