Played at @DonM 's old course today, Mission Royale in Casa Grande. Shot a bad score. If you saw my Overlap thread I went out for a "let's give this new grip a try round."
Had to drive 30 miles south to find a tee time I could afford. With everyone in town for the Super Bowl, I had to find someplace with an affordable tee time. My local track that is normally $100 right now(too expensive) wanted $150. I get there an hour early to practice and was hitting it decent on the range.
Was ready to go and looking forward to playing. Got to hole one to check in with the starter about 10 minutes before go time. The threesome I am to play with still haven't checked in. I was getting excited thinking I was going to go out as a single. Nope. 5 minutes later, the golfshop calls and says they are here and on their way. I decide to tee off and hit a nice one. Starter then says, "oh, we are going to let this group go since yours isn't here yet." Now I am already not happy because I am now delayed.
Threesome finally shows up, 2 ladies and a gentlemen. Lady one says in the nicest voice, "this is only my 2nd time playing." Lady 2 says she started playing after her divorce to take her aggression out on something. I ask Eric, "what tees you gonna play from?" "I haven't played in a couple of years so I will play the whites." So my almost dream round playing as a single has now turned into a freaking nightmare.
I made it about 5 holes before my mental game took a shit. I love when people drop their phone, bottle, etc.. right in the middle of my backswing. I also love when they decide to start up a conversation right next to me when I am about to start my swing and have to back away. After the 5th hole they took a 10 minute bathroom break and I proceeded to play the par 3 6th. I waived them up since they finally finished in the bathroom and when they got to the green I said I was going to play ahead and said goodbye. I get to the 7th tee box and the group ahead of us is still in the f'ing fairway with a hole and a half open in front of them!! So I ended up just playing with the 3 blind mice the rest of the round. Couldn't get comfortable on any tee box the rest of the round as I was anticipating some kind of noise during my swing.
After the round I went to the restaurant for some lunch and a must needed beer. The Alaskan Amber was quite tasty. A bunch of old timers called the Misfits was rolling in from their Saturday game and I chatted with them for a bit. Nice bunch of guys @DonM if they were part of your crowd. I asked if they knew a guy named Don that moved to Texas. I think they named 7 different Don's and I am sure you were one of them.😁
That was my awesome day on the golf course.
