Nice day here in NW Ohio today (sunny, mid-40's and best of all, WINDLESS), so I had the itch to go hit balls.
The only range open is on the other side of town, so on a whim, I called Maumee Bay State Park, which is a
really nice park with a hotel/lodge/conference center, complete with an Art Hills links-style golf course, only about 10 minutes from my house.
I remembered that they used to have an "honor box" in the winter time, so I called there and found out that
it's still in effect. You put $10 cash in an envelope, fill out your name, phone # (in case the park rangers
want to check), put it in a lock box, and play as many as you want! The drawback.....temporary greens either
short of or next to the real ones. But, I got in 9 holes on a nice day, hit a lot of shots, and walked 2-3 miles....
I'll take it!
