We had an interclub event today at Hurricane Creek CC in Anna TX, with people from 3 or 4 clubs on each team. Our team sucked but I played well. Shot 79 with 32 putts. This place has bent grass greens which just seems absolutely nuts in this heat. They have the big fans, and the greens are so soggy it's ridiculous. And they're still on death's doorstep. I could not get used to the slower speed. Did_not_make_a_putt_all_day.
On par 5 17, I teed high, leaned back, and launched a tremendous drive over a stand of mature oaks that are 100 yards in front of the tees. The normal route is to shoot away from them to the right then dogleg left but I decided to die with my boots on and see if I could go over. I did, and the drive went 270. I had 165 to the green and hit it to 15 feet for the eagle putt. Which_I_left_a_foot_short_on_line. Eff me.
One guy on my team had the worst y-ps I've seen in a long time. And he doesn't even seem to know. What a game this is.
The event included chicken fried steak, mashed, and beans. Peach cobbler and ice cream. All for $55 including prize fund.
18th green and clubhouse.
