Only had time for nine. At the last second I decided, for no reason at all, to sub out my gamer putter with an old Ping Zing 2 I had in the den.
Parred one, bogeyed 2 and 3. On four I hit the ball in the water but got up and down from the drop zone for bogey. Bogey 5. Yet another water ball on the second par three, yet another up and down from the drop zone for bogey.
So on the 7th tee I am 5 over.
Then I had back-to-back birdies on 7 and 8, both by draining putts in the 20-25 foot range. Just short of the green on 9, my chip was heading straight into the hole but stopped two feet short of a third consecutive birdie.
So I went two under through the last three and ended up with a 38.
Seems like the old Ping putter was making its case for becoming the starter!
