Played in our men’s night last night - 37 on the front with 2 birdies and a 37 on the back with one birdie for a smooth 74 (my cap is at 12 right now). Made some putts that I should’ve missed but also missed a few putts I should have made and left 2 hanging on the lip. Didn’t use the gps on the watch and just played by looking at the fairway markers and guesttimating the distances. Also played with two other guys I had never played with before that weren’t playing men’s night, but just out there having a good time. Also not playing for any money and I think I was able to relax and go back to having fun.

Scramble with my wife today 41-36 77. Slow start and fast finish. Nice back nine. Bogeyed 18 to miss out on a -1 on the back nine.

Hit the range today to try and figure out the Geek Floyd Driver. The extra length (46 inches) and hard stepped stiff Grafalloy PL Supercharged Red is doing a good job keeping me right. I didn’t get great launch when I played my first round with it (but was getting ok distance on poor hits around 275). I started with more low launches from low strikes. I got a few videos of my swing and I was really hitting down on it. I teed it a bit higher and focused on hitting up and caught some great ones. Still a work in progress but the Floyd is very forgiving and I’m keeping it strait.

The Thriver Mini (at 5W length) is a rocket launcher. Bombs off the tee and piss missiles off the deck.

Something I’ll try when I feel like I’m hitting down on it. I’ll actually take it more outside on the backswing and focus on dropping it to the inside on the downswing. Sort of think about how Jim Furyk does it.

Played the 1st time today in a month. Between my back issues last month and my cataract surgery 1.5 weeks ago I have not been able to play until now. My eyes are not fully adjusted yet so I wanted an easy course. Took me a while to get m6 eyes adjusted. Shot 46-42. Front nine was a struggle with chipping. Finally got it figured out a bit better on the back nine. Felt good enough to book a round at Quintero next Sunday.

88 at a pretty easy course I break 80 a lot. Freak day I was pounding the ball for me anyways. Pumping irons over greens that I thought wasn’t possible. A handful of shots like that cost me triples and doubles. Oh well golf is weird some days but I always have a blast

Played our back 9 today which is tougher than the front because of all the uneven lies, blind shots and doglegs. Shot -1… no bad shots, just lazy round really. Funny thing was on 18 I had 120 to the hole and hit a gap wedge from the right rough. I looked up and never saw it. So had to keep scanning to see it come down somewhere. Shocked me to see it land a foot directly behind the hole and not move. Never saw it in the air.

Yes, I made the putt.

No golf for me but I did watch golf_ghirl's champs final Saturday. Sadly not to be, she was all square thru 7 but lost a few holes in a row after coming up the hill on the course. Think she was spooked by so many spectators and well-wishers. Her first final, her opponent's played in several without winning, but a bit more used to the scrutiny.

EDIT : highlight of the day, a late rally included as near a hole in one on par 3 #15 as I've ever seen. Would have killed me for her to get a second to my none (so far ...) but a fabulous shot all the same.

Personally I think she took a lot out of herself in the tougher half of the draw, taking out two of the favourites including last year's champion. Maybe next year.

Anyway I left her with the girls in the clubhouse, walking her home later that night on my way off the golf course with the dog. Think she'd sunk more pink gins than she did putts in the match; finals day can be a bit of a session 🤣

79 at Timber Greens. Had two birdies. Going to have to shut it down for awhile. My back is really hurting. Hurts on every shot. Probably doing more damage trying to play thru the pain. Chicken salad sandwich with a cup of loaded potato soup was excellent as always.

Taking a month off and letting my back heal did well for me. Sucked not playing but it is nice not having the pain.

Played Stone Ridge in Bowling Green today. The course was in great shape (it always is!), but the best I could manage was 40-41-81 from the senior tees. In going over my scorecard, I realize that IF I could have parred the last two holes, I could have broken 80.....Not meant to be though, as I bogeyed both of them with lousy chipping on
each of those holes. (Number 18 shown below...)

86 (14 over) today. Playing the red tees now. Played pretty well for the "new me". One triple and one double, 9 bogeys, 7 pars.

Golf_ghirl and MS had a tee time for their ladies medal so I got an invite to that, then realised there was a seniors' stableford medal in the diary. Shot 44-42 for 86, nett 70, 36 points. should get a small hc cut for it all.

Not bad as I definitely wasn't on top of my game. Started par-bogey-par but the tee shot on #2 was dreadful, as was the one on #4 - topped it short of a ditch 75 yards from the tee then topped the second shot into the ditch on my way to an 8 ... 🤣 No clue what that was all about. Parred and bogeyed all the rest except for a double on #10.

Irons were pretty good bar one or two fats - I either have an infection in my left eye or it's a hay fever thing but it's weeping a lot and my vision is blurred and unfocussed at times. Had to step away from a couple of shots as I didn't feel I could see the ball well enough to hit it!

Oh well ... may play a few tomorrow as I have a seniors event at West Linton on Thursday.

Played 9 last night in 41....with a triple on #8 😡 Stupid bogeys on 1 and 2 as well, but finally good enough to win my match.

Last two days, I went around 9 holes seven times. The first and last go rounds on Monday I played 2 balls other than that I played 1. I shot 41/36 2 balls first 9, a 46 2nd 9, 38 3rd 9 that 9 holes I chipped in for a birdie from about 30 yards on the 1st hole. That was all a lucky bounce! Last Monday 9 I shot a 38/40. Yesterday, I went around 3 times with a guy I used to work with. I shot a 39, 37, & 41. I'm still working on learning how to hit that 5 wood, that said I have had more than a few good hits with it. When I hit it well, I'm almost always about 180-190 off the tee with it. I like it.

I think I’m just worn out a bit between clinics, lessons and proshop. Play has been lackluster, just going through the motions. Not grinding at all. Got behind some shit golf on the last 9 and ended up jumping over and playing 2 long holes coming in instead of playing behind that crap. 3 guys in 2 carts went out an hour and 15 minutes before me and I caught them on the 4th hole 🙄…. I was walking.

I played today for the first time in 2 weeks. At the end the temp was 93 with a feels like of 105. I shot lower than the temperature with a 90. Bogey golf is about what I hope for. Only one real blowup hole. I'm laying 2 about 126 yards out a par 5 thinking I had a decent chance at par. Ended up with a 9! The third shot ended up in the back of a bunker with a downhill lie. I didn't get out. The next shot got out but was just into the rough across the green. Chip out and 3 putts (my first of the day). Oh well, I birdied the last hole, another par 5.

With the heat, we were fortunate to be done in 3.5 hours. A foursome in front of us only had three bags and one guy was playing barefoot. Very slow. They let us play through on the fourth hole and we never had to wait again until our tee shots on 18 and then only briefly.
