A lot of golf this week and feeling really tired but decided to give the Saturday medal a go. Was playing OK but a poor drive and some spectacular course mismanagement cost me an 8 (par 4 #9) so 44 to the turn. Then had a solid run of pars/bogeys until another poor(ish) drive - we all saw the ball carry the trouble, we all saw it bounce, we couldn't bloody find it! - led to another bout of spectacular course mismanagement and a 9 (par 5 #16). Strange game. golf. 44-46 for 90, nett 75 ... now sitting +7 after 2 rounds of 72 hole comp. Won't win from there but be cool to get 4 scores in.
And a bonus factor - GG (heart op, October '20) made it thru 18 on our "wee" course (lot of hills, lot of long walks from green to next tee), in baking heat with little breeze, feeling just a bit tired towards the end. No breathlessness, no minor dizzy spells ... seems to be well on the road to full recovery, and his game is starting to come round too.
Couple of beers afterwards, doing a countback - 12 holes Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 18 Thursday, Friday (alternate shot, ride-on ... does that count?), Saturday. So when GG asked if anyone wanted to make up a 4ball at Crail (Balcomie) on Sunday, I did what any overehated, overplayed golfer would do - I said yes!
Me and my partner won that match 1 up. I played steady and holed some solid putts for birdie/par, including a 7-8 footer on #18 to win the match. DM kept a rough count, with gimmes in play and pickups where your partner had the hole won or halved - 73 for him (his lowest ever), 78 for me (first time sub 80 in a while although it was from yellow tees).
No more golf for me 'til Wednesday at least, I'm done.
