Eguller SMT Sounds like more than a few of us miss those halcyon component days. Before loads of tendon issues, i relied mostly on an SMT 455db and won a few LDA events. Exciting and great fun. Thanks for all your support in those days Mike. It was appreciated more than you realize - by others too. 🏌 😎
gllama Back when I was 45 or so (20 years ago), I had an SMT 455 with an Accuflex VS339. Hit some monster drives with it (285-300). Loved that driver. Sold it and then picked up a couple of other ones down the road but they never had the same poon as the original one I had. Tried a couple of Bang O Matic drivers but never saw very good results. Tried several Geek drivers and really liked the Dot Com drivers but not so much the No Brainer. The Wishon 525 GRT was just as long as the 455, maybe longer. Miss those great old days of components. Fun times.
Typhoon gllama The 455/vs339 combo was one of the best drivers I EVER owned. I finally sold it last year, hated too but I just wasn’t using it anymore. I think Weirfan had the same combo. I had it in x flex, which was probably too stiff for me but somehow worked. That head 15 years later looked as new as the day I bought it. I remember showing my club fitter and he was amazed how it looked knowing how many hits it had on it.
bigshank Typhoon one of my all time favorite component drivers was a SMT Nemesis shafted with a Ust Proforce 65 shaft. Another one before that was a Golfsmith titanium 260 I believe with a Graffaloy Prolite 65. For me those were my longest drives of my life but also was still in my twenties so that might have a little something to do with that 🤔
Spuzz Typhoon The 455/vs339 combo was one of the best drivers I EVER owned Same here. Team Canada colours! Second longest for me was a Spectrum/Fuji Vista Tour 70s combo. My favourite was the industrial grey sweetheart Nemesis 🙂
pike51 The Nemesis with Mercury Performance in blue was quite possibly the cleanest setup ever. The 455 and vs339 were flat out made for each other. I think my Nemesis has a Nicco-Lite in it right now.
LogicalOne Love this thread. Takes me back to the logo below when SMT was Superior Metal Technology. I don’t remember the dealer I bought heads from, but I recall buying several Nemesis and Shinnecock drivers and several AccuFlex shafts (can’t recall which model...they were about $35 a piece). Those combos sold quick! Fun times! 🙂
SMT LogicalOne That was the tagline I had to use for interviews in the golf magazines. It sounded more professional than... "those are my son's initials"
toraider Typhoon I had the SMT T-shirt that said "“Swing hard, you might hit something" That shirt needs to make a comeback, I'd buy one...😉 and one for Spuzz > but only in Baby Blue!
KCee Typhoon I had the SMT T-shirt that said "“Swing hard, you might hit something" I still have that Red SMT T-shirt. It just won't die and I wear it a lot around the house in the summer
Spuzz Typhoon I had the SMT T-shirt that said "“Swing hard, you might hit something" As did I. I also have the last remaining SMT old school 384 yards hats that Mike was nice enough to dust off and send to me when he emptied his warehouse. 🙂
Spuzz toraider and one for Spuzz > but only in Baby Blue! I would give it to the wife to match her blue SMT hat LOL
Typhoon toraider I’d buy a shirt again. Had the white one with purple writing. It was my favorite for years!!
SMT Just for fun, looking at all the weird stuff behind my desk, I see these 4 clubheads that are the same ones that these guys asked to use. Same heads, same lofts. First one is John O' Herlihy ( J. Peterman from Seinfeld )
SMT Michael Cheng, Tennis phenom and nicest guy on the planet. Stopped by the warehouse and spent quite a bit of time. Wonderfully nice man!
