Seeing What a Clubfitter Hoes Through

Just hitting irons on the GC2 Quad and looking at my launch angle, ball speed, height and decent angle numbers are with the 2 different shafted irons. It gives me a feeling of how hard it is and what a crap shoot it is to find the proper shaft to make ALL the numbers right.

The modus 3 105 stiff for me launches too high, spins a bit lower than it should but has a great angle of decent and the height is perfect. When I try to bring down the launch, spin goes up which is good but overall height and decent angle are bad.

The DG pro has issues too... it’s just gotta be mind boggling for a fitter these days with so many options and knowing about all these shafts.

With a good player such as yourself, yep. With higher handicaps, I've seen it go quickly.

I had a discussion with my fitter about this and he said he generally defaults to what feels best to the player and has limited dispersion. He said he usually couldn't change someone's shot height (with an iron) all that much by changing the shaft. According to him that's mainly dictated my your swing.

I'm surprised you would use Modus 3 105 Stiff. I've used that shaft and I'm a pea shooter. I would think you would need X flex.

Ive never been actually fit for irons. The Ping guy suggested these at a demo day. He said I’d be ok with an x but might be more consistent with a stiff. These people aren’t real clubfitters, they only have access to the shafts they carry and at some of these demo days they don’t bring shit. Maybe an x would have been better.

Typhoon I tend to get fit for a stiffer shaft because of my too quick tempo. I've always found that with steel shafts I can play R or S and it doesn't seem to matter. I would usually tip in between flexes. Fitter told me that was too soft, but honestly I think I liked it better lol.
