as others have said, blocking the wind when temps are cold is the goal , but they are also great in wet weather. Many folks accessorize with a propane heater that sits in the cart cup holder....good to keep hands warm. A couple of the other marshals use this.
i have only ever used one once, on a Feb trip to Myrtle and Colonial Charters lent us one for free on a cool day...really helped.
not all carts are the same size so make sure you get one that is universally big enough or fits your cart model
