Cobra Long Tom Driver

I was fortunate to have a friend on another forum send me one of these... he had 2. This one is brand new. We were having a discussion with on of the guys there who posted a YouTube video about building a LD driver. It was exactly the way I did my Ping LD club. One thing led to another as we talked about the Long Tom a bit.

I had one a few years back before I had a better knowledge of how to control spin and hit something at this length. I’ll take it to indoor golf tomorrow night and try to find time to hit it.

It was a pretty good head. I had one with the Blackbird in stiff, wasn't anywhere near stiff enough and I hit it all over the place. Tried a couple of other things in it, then sold it for another experiment. With the right shaft, it might be pretty good.

I hit it on the sim tonite. Surprised myself because it was a 9 degree stiff like the one I had years ago and traded in. Back then I didn’t hit it right. I know more about how to hit that length now. Anyway, what surprises me was how straight I hit it. I hit my own stuff straight but the Long Tom is longer and lighter. Hit probably 10 balls... the pro here was laughing it was so straight and long. I hit it much better this time around.

Typhoon You have the factory Blackbird shaft in it? I really liked the head, but that shaft was def made by the Devil & a blacksmith. Never had a shaft sting my hands like it did.

Yeah, it has the factory Black Bird shaft. I wasn’t a fan of it first time around. Never solid and a lot of spin. Tonite I hit it much better but I think because it’s so light for that length maybe the walls are very thin so it feels harsh... I dunno but I know what you mean. It just has a weird feel to it.

I think it’s around 260 grams total weight. The shaft feeling harsh could also be it feeling stiffer due to the low head weight? When I get to it I’ll weigh it. Reason I grabbed it was to try moving some lead tape around the light head and see what it does to all the numbers.

I have a couple of those hanging around, one still has the Blackbird shaft.
Good sticks for the price, light and long.

I remember this club- very long but hard to control( of course). Back when I had it I wasn't weighing heads so not sure on the weight but when i put a "normal" shaft (65g), it felt much better than the lightweight blackbird shaft so I'm guessing the head was standard weight, around 195-200g.

When they first came out I was killing one at an outdoor demo. I got one a few years later and i sucked with it. Now that I’m hitting that length again it performed well on the monitor.. good numbers. Spin might have been a touch high... could add some lead tape on the sole close to the face and see if it changes anything
