kelco9 We ended up shooting -19, 52, and didn't cheat so much as one stroke.
I think many times the people who get upset , just are jealous they aren't good enough to do that.
i only played in one this year due to the pandemic but most years play in 3 or 4. most are for charities , fundraisers for local sports teams or a restaurant/bar annual event. Prizing isnt typically why you play in them and while there is a usually trophy or free green fee etc for the winner, some will just have a prize table with the good stuff and its by random draw and maybe the winning team gets to go up first. Often they use the really good prizes in a silent auction or raffle.
there is One I play in at my buddy's private club which is also a tip and tuck, 7600 yards with the pins in the most crazy spot on the greens. 144 guys, $600 a team, $100 ($14,400 ) for top 3 teams and the remaining $7200 for skins. You can have only one handicap below 7, one 8-15, one 16-25 and one above that. They do play in 8-somes in this one. Hard to shoot low obviously but -5 to -10 typically wins. Another I play in at a course 10 minutes from me is as a fundraiser for the local Macabi games team ...it hands out incredible swag ( well over $1000 in stuff per entrant) and winners get a nice trophy and 4 green fees each for the course which charges $300/round. Entry is $1200/team and the course owner who is a multi billionaire charges nothing to the charity and donates all the proceeds from fees, meals, use of his course and staff and part of the swag package is 4 green fee passes for each participant.
i like playing in a few scrambles because they are a fun day with a group of friends often with many others I know playing in the event and generally involve lots of drinking and laughs.....and at the end of the day a cause has raised support and is better off.
