You really like having a plan and then sticking to it even when the performance on the field speaks volumes that your pitcher is having a great night controlling the ball and baffling the opposition? Pulling a pitcher because you have a plan in the 7th game at the end of the year is arrogant and stupid. I really hope that there were reasons we don't know about. But that was not the only poor decision regarding pitchers Madden made. Then Madden pulled Lester after he settled down and inserted Chapman whose ball velocity was 5-6 mph below his norm. Chapman is great when his ball velocity is 100-103, when he drops to around 95-97 he doesn't have the same ball movement and not a good record. The only good thing for Madden is that his team had more talent than he did in handling his pitchers.
Just to be clear, what Madden did makes sense in the regular season or perhaps in the first game of a 7 game series. Game 7, end of the year, you play the winning hand, not your BS plan. I do think Madden is a good coach and I believe he will learn from this game.
Imo, it would be like rotating out a player during the Ryder Cup on the last day that scored a 64 in the previous match. It may have been your plan, but you put your plan where it belongs.
It was a great series with some great moments, clutch hits, some not so great plays in the field, etc. Both teams have a lot of young talent and if you wish to admire a plan fulfilled, look to the judgement of the upper management on the part of both of these teams.
