Grip size?

I still use fairway woods over hybrids. I found
a #7 Taylormade JetSpeed fairway wood to match my
#3 & #5 woods, but its a Ladies #7 wood so the grip is
too small. It measures .86 2" down from the grip end.
How many layers of build-up tape do i use to make this
a standard size grip? Also i would like replace the shaft,
what low price shaft would be similar to the Taylormade
Matrix Velox, M Flex, weight = 69 grams?

have you tried looking at eBay for that shaft? Somebody could have a pull or new old stock lying around?

As to the grip, you need 3 layers of tape to make it standard.

It does depend on thickness of build-up tape used. Majority is .006 thickness but not all. Get a cheap calipers to know butt diameter and diameter of grip 2" below butt. That way you can measure anything you come across and make correct adjustments for grip size and what is needed.

'Ladies' shafts also are known(sometimes) to have a smaller diameter butt, not just the grip size.

Correct so when you have a calipers you can measure any butt diameter and match ID of grip to butt diameter with any needed build-up tape w/2 sided tape. Calipers is the answer IMO. 😀

scotts33 imo, calipers are an integral part of building. I must have 4, and just remembered I do have a new digital. Very handy for things like ordering ferrules that fit properly.

Totally agree Rex. Unsure how hobbyists build clubs without a good set of calipers?
