Clubfitting: Iron vs Hybrid shafts

@scotts33 If you fit a person into FST 90 R flex irons, what would be your first couple of ideas to test in a hybrid shaft? Say a 25 hybrid at 39 inches....

I've always played the same shafts in my hybrids that I have in my irons.

I actually use the FST 90 Shafts in my Hybrids. Was using the FST115's in the irons. The 90 works well in my Adams hybrid.

I would say it does matter, depending on the final objective.

OK, yes. But I mean I'll listen to a case for one of either size.
I do want launch. But not at the cost of accuracy. I'm not sure that I can have it both ways though. That's why I'm leaning toward .370.

Thinking of the Apollo Shadow Graphite, regular weight R/S tipped as S, which Rex suggested a few days ago for my irons. According to DSFI it would be a good match for the FST 90 R. It would be 77 grams cut, versus 90 on the steel shaft. Seems to be high launch.

Don--What's your mid-iron club head speed, transition time and release (early-mid-late)?

The only .335 hybrid graphite that cover the gamut of fitting possibilities that I think are worth a crap are Wishon S2S graphite.

IMO Don it's hard to find a decent hybrid shaft with some shaft weight to match your stats. Most of them are too light for your needs. You want more shaft weight but most of the 80g hybrid shafts are too stout especially .370's. A Wishon S2S Black hybrid graphite 95g .335 "R" possibly soft stepped or not your choice is one I would look at. The .335 will launch higher than a .370 but the S2S Black hybrid is still a pretty stout shaft. Maybe a Recoil 95 in R? I've used the Recoil 110 S in hybrids and utilities as it's what I use in my irons now. I had some iRod 95 shafts, but they are discontinued and were pricey any way. I haven't built a hybrid with the Recoil 95, but I did try it in iron/utility and it worked decently.

I've used the Wishon 95g hybrid shaft, but I never got along as well with the .335 hybrid shafts as I did with a .355 or .370. I have a quick tempo and hit a relatively high ball though so I was probably never the design target player.

There is 1 hybrid shaft out there that fits the weight you want, UST V2 Hybrid shaft. It used to come in both .335 & .370, in the yellow/black original. When you can find the old version, they are generally much cheaper than the new style. I've got them in my Acer hybrids right now, and have been trying to get along with them for several rounds since last summer. Even in A flex, they are stout with the stiff tips. But, the ball does still launch high enough for me. The listed weight came in on spec, about 80 gr..

Don, if you want to try a V2 shaft, .370 A flex, let me know before tomorrow. It's already pulled/gripped and is 38". With the low torque/stiff tip, it plays (for me) much stiffer than A. I think I had this in my 25* before changing that shaft to something more flexy. I also have others in my 19 & 22 heads, but have some new Tensei shafts I'm going to try in them. If you'd like all 3, let me know. Pay for shipping only as I'm never going to use them again. iirc, I did not tip trim any of them, if that helps.

Jeez that is a nice offer. I'm going to pass because I have some experience with the stiff tip low torque V2 line and I didn't care for it either. Thanks again, I feel bad turning down free stuff!

DonM I've tried thru the years to like those shafts, but seems every time I buy I some, I get weaker. 😁

I just think the low torque fad went too far at that time. Talk about boardy.
Now it's going the other way. True Temper just had a video out in which the guy says torque is about feel, and high speed elite players want that tight feel, while slow swingers need the torque so the shaft feels good at the low speed. I dunno, but that's their official position.
